Biography
Micol is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Bergamo, Italy.
Her work explores the interweaving of embodied, artistic, and everyday forms of expression throughout the research process, with a particular focus on emotions, relationality, and collective meaning-making. She is a founding member and enthusiastic facilitator of the Creative Methods Open Lab, an interdisciplinary space where academic curiosity meets creative experimentation. Through this lens, Micol works across teaching, mentoring, and research supervision to support students and researchers engaging with body-based, reflexive, and collaborative methodologies.
Micol’s engagement with body mapping grew from her broader commitment to embodied and participatory methodologies.
In her work, body mapping becomes a way to explore biographical experiences and emotional landscapes, offering a grounded and imaginative space for storytelling, reflection, and care. She has applied body mapping in a research project on mental distress and family caregiving, contributing to an in-depth exploration of vulnerability, relational ethics, and the role of visual storytelling in co-creating safe research spaces. She continues to teach body mapping, especially as a method to navigate affect, positionality, and intersectional experiences, and to mentor research projects that include body mapping as a key method for exploring lived experiences of biographical disruption.
