Biography
I am a multinational award-winning arts-based researcher, TEDx speaker, author, artist, and transformative educational leader inspired and grounded by Indigenous wisdoms. Throughout my career in higher education in the US, Central Asia, and Europe, my teaching and research has focused on embedding justice-oriented approaches with creative methods to demystify praxis and empower students, early career researchers and practitioners. Body mapping has been such direction I’ve explored to address systemic global issues (e.g., equity, inclusion, social, environmental, and economic justice), such as in teaching graduate students about innovative research methods and mentoring students in using the approach in their own teaching. For instance, in my first methodological book – Questions in Qualitative Social Justice Research in Multicultural Contexts (with Boivin), I discuss how bodymapping offers a means of collaboration and co-production across research and in community-building. More recently, I have brought together colleagues internationally to consider how body mapping might be incorporated in online spaces with digital tools. Today, I am particularly interested in weaving transformative, decolonial, and Indigenous approaches to nurture cross-cultural applications of online bodymapping in working with communities in hard-to-reach higher education spaces of teaching, learning, and professional development.
